The muscles of the face are no different from the muscles of the rest of the body. If you don’t exercise the muscles below the neck, they become weak and flabby, and the same thing will happen to your face with age. Facial Yoga is a completely natural way of making your face look younger by toning the muscles. So if you’re conscious about your double chin, chubby cheeks or wrinkles, you can take matters into your own hands! Here are some facial yoga exercises to make you look youthfully healthy.
Puff up the cheeks
Puff out both of your cheeks and shift the air in your mouth from one cheek to the other, 5 times. Then release air while making a small “O”. Repeat the exercise three-four times to keep your cheeks firm. Did you involuntarily do this action while reading it? Well, we’re glad we’ve got you started on your facial yoga journey! Incidentally, it’s a fun way to play with your dog around the house, but we must warn you, your cat will not be amused by these silly things.
Stick your tongue out
As silly as this sound, do your best impression of a lion and stick your tongue out. No, really! Trust us, this is a great exercise to tone the cheek muscles making them look firm for that perfect contour face. Repeat 3 times for full effect. We hear babies are better than adults at this exercise but here’s your chance to give them a run for their money and bring your inner child out!
Look Up at The Ceiling
This next one is particularly engaging. Think of your favourite tall, dark and handsome celebrity and look up and pucker your mouth like you’re about to kiss them. Hold for 5 seconds, and repeat 5 times. For a more prominent jawline and high cheekbones, you can also stick out your tongue while looking up at the ceiling in order to stretch and strengthen the muscles in your neck. Return to a neutral position to continue the exercise every time. Your significant other is sure to thank you for this!
Give the Instagram pout and duck face a rest and take a step further by making your mouth like a fish. Smile while pursuing your lips, then create a fish face by sucking the inside of your cheeks into the gap between the sides of your teeth. Perform this exercise five times to firm and tone your lips and cheeks. Actually, while you’re at it, this is perfect for an impromptu boomerang on IG to share with your friends.
Bye Bye Crow’s Feet
This exercise works wonders to decrease unwanted lines around your eyes, also known as crow’s feet. Open your eyes wide, as if startled or scared. Pull your skin back while doing this exercise with the help of your hands, you’ve seen this before! It’s what all mothers do when you tell them you’re coming home late and they all go, “Hey Bhagwan!”
As simple as this sounds, it’s the most effective way to tone your jawline. Drop your jaw to open your mouth, and make a small “O” with your lips. While keeping your jaw dropped, widen your lips like you’re going to smile. Keep repeating small “O” big “O” about 10 times. This is a great exercise to do while watching your favourite guilty pleasure reality show and your exercise will coincide with all the cliffhangers.
